Bladescale Honing is a weapon skill on Seregios gear — not a Smithy material upgrade. Bladescale Loading is the bowgun/bow variant. Both trigger on a perfect dodge while your weapon is drawn.

What Bladescale Honing Does
When you perfect-dodge a monster attack with your weapon out, Bladescale Honing applies temporary special sharpness — stronger than normal White sharpness with a 1.4× damage multiplier. It does not stack with itself; use the buff before triggering again.
Razor Sharp and Master's Touch do not slow special sharpness loss — plan around the temporary window.
Bladescale Honing vs Bladescale Loading
Players often search both terms together:
- Honing = melee/blade weapons (Great Sword, Long Sword, Dual Blades, Charge Blade, etc.)
- Loading = ranged (Heavy/Light Bowgun, Bow) — grants special ammo or coatings on evade instead of sharpness
Same dodge timing, different payoff. Pick the Seregios weapon line that matches your weapon type.
Weapons With Bladescale Honing
Craft or upgrade Seregios weapon trees — each weapon type has a Rarity 7 base and Rarity 8 upgrade with the skill baked in:
- Great Sword: Cheda Blade → Impudent Cheda
- Long Sword: Khanga Edge → Khanga Rebellion
- Dual Blades: Zakun Twins → Terrible Twins
- Charge Blade: Aslat Charger → Rebellious Charger
- Insect Glaive: Altair → Alteal
- (Plus Hammer, Lance, Gunlance, Switch Axe, Sword & Shield, Hunting Horn lines)
Farm Seregios parts at the rank where these trees unlock, then upgrade at the Smithy.
How to Use the Skill in Hunts
- Learn the monster's telegraphs — the skill rewards intentional perfect dodges, not panic rolls.
- Weapon drawn only — sheathed dodges do not proc Honing/Loading.
- Burst during special sharpness — dump your highest-motion attacks in the buff window.
- For Loading builds — special ammo bypasses normal consumption; do not waste charges on trash targets.
Common Mistakes
- Searching for "honing materials" at the Smithy (it is a skill, not a zenny gate)
- Confusing Bladescale Honing with Bladescale Loading on bowgun searches
- Expecting Razor Sharp to extend special sharpness (it does not)
